Good Deal for the Price

This was an Amazon Deal of the Day for $14. Nice bit selection, sturdy carrying case, name brand. Although there was some feedback questioning the durability of these bits, I couldn't resist at this price. Nevertheless, under normal household project use, these bits should do the job. "Impact compatible" does not necessarily mean true impact quality--for heavy-duty use, especially when the impact feature isn't the main advertising hook to get you buy these bits. (I.e., water-resistant does not mean water-proof.)

Not what I expected from Makita

I bought 2 of these sets one for home/personal use and one for work use.
I am a big believer in Makita - power tools and own many to this day- this was the first bit accessory kit I have ever purchased with the Makita name on it and sadly enough I must say I am very disappointed with it already.

I have been using this kit at work for about 2 weeks now with my 18v cordless drill/driver and 18v cordless impact/driver.
I would not recommend using these bits with the impact driver. I completely shattered my bit extension today at work while using it in the 18v impact driver with the 5/16 hex bit.

Another issue I have had with the kit already is the inside of the case. The little plastic hinges that hold the bit holders secure in place so things don't move around have already broke and my bits are all over the place every time I open it.

The only Pro I can list at this time for this kit is it does have a nice assortment of bits, other than that I would not suggest anyone waste the $27 on it. Buy the Dewalt kits, they have proven to be much better than this one.

Wobble, Wobble, Wobble!

These drills wobble and do not spin true. I had to have a set replaced as they would not fit in my just purchased Makita 10.8v combo set with drill/driver and impact gun.
The second set wouldn't fit in the drill driver but did fit in the impact but even so they really wobbled.
I mean do they even have a QC department at all or do they just pull one drill out of a batch on 100,000 and see if it doesn't wobble more than 1/4"?!
I'm keeping the second set and buying Apex bits locally and those are supposed to be the best.
I mainly bought this set for the hex spade bits. This set is black oxided and that's a good thing.
My former company used to do a lot of black oxide and it's really great at rust prevention from condensation or vapor.
But don't keep it soaking wet or it will still rust.
Anyway this set is mostly junk. The regular drills look like they have aluminum 1/4" hex glued on and aluminum isn't good for drilling.
I was a machinist for 16 years. Steer clear of this bit set. The Dewalt set looks better, but Apex is what I'm getting, they spin true and yes they do cost some money but they are only 59 cents to replace a broken bit.
All bits break eventually, but they break a lot less when they don't wobble like a drunken clown on a unicycle with a flat tire, riding down a cobblestone street!

Just the drill I needed

My previous drill was a 14.4V Makita I have owned for 10+ years. Used it for routine home maintenance. I alway found it to be adequate. One of the NiMH battery packs had finally gotten to where it no longer provided much power. Since the drill still did everything I needed, I thought... why not just get a couple of new batteries. Wrong... $190 for batteries (I purchased the drill and batteries for about $100.) So lots of reviews read later, I abandoned my first thought to go with the yellow drill due to my aversion to NiCd batteries. (Yep, I know that Li batteries are available but for a premium price.) So, looked at the Porter Cable and Milwaukee reviews. It seemed that most of the former quality brands had cheapened their products in the interests of the quick buck and the disposable commodity model. Not subscribing to that model, I decided to go back with the brand (Makita) that had served me so well for so long. I ordered the unit, it arrived within a couple of days. I popped the screw driver head on and drove a number of screws (that the 14.4 would have handled). The power and torque of the 18V unit is noticeably higher than my old Makita. I absolutely love the high intensity light that lights the work. The light should have been a feature from the beginning. I did not experience any chuck-wobble mentioned in other reviews. The batteries do indeed charge quickly. I have not run either battery down to the point of exhaustion yet but with Lithium batteries, this is recommended practice (not to exhaust batteries). I don't know how you could go wrong with the Makita. By the way, this drill is black and white (rather than Makita Turquoise). Highly recommended.

ok for light duty, but expected way more from makita
